In 1837, many followers of Christ came together in homes and other places to for Elizabethtown Church of God. They did this for 11 years before constructing a building.

The church thrived and has always tried to be forward thinking in how they operate and share the gospel. After many years of prayer and discussion the church’s building was sold in 2022 and the church returned to meeting in homes. Meeting in homes allows for groups to be smaller and intimate. This allows the forming of deep relationships and to be more dialogue based.

We have chosen to call them โ€œChurch Houses,โ€ or โ€œHouses of the Elizabethtown Church of God,โ€ borrowing the term โ€œhouseโ€ from the traditional English educational system that places people into groups called houses. ‘โ€œHouses,โ€ therefore, donโ€™t refer to the place where people gather, but rather, to the people themselves.

Church Houses meet together each week to engage in the reading of Scripture, sharing our lives with one another, and to discuss our faith journey in everyday life.

We also eat food, pray, sing, serve and much more.

We are a church made up of church houses

Our goal is to have distributed leadership among our pastor(s), elders and house leaders

The church is not dependent on one person to do the work, or on one place that ministry can happen.

Everyone can participate and everyplace is an opportunity for ministry

All Church Houses gather monthly on the Third Sunday of each month for a Gathering of Gatherings. These gatherings include teaching, prayer, music, and food.

Our groups are open. New people are welcoming to become a part of a church house at any time.

We aim for diversity. We don’t want our groups to be filled with people that are all alike. Having a diversity people in our groups allows us to help one another along in life. Everyone can bring something to the table.

Church Houses are lead by House Leaders. Their job is to help facilitate church house meetings but also connect with church house members to encourage each person’s faith in their everyday life.

All are welcome!
